Our Story
Welcome to Heritage Cabin Co.
Heritage Cabin Co. is more than a little business to me. It is, in many ways, a piece of my heart offered out into the world.
I’m Angel, the maker and proprietor behind Heritage Cabin Co., and I’ve been making things with my hands for nearly as long as I can remember. I picked up my first cross stitch needle when I was about eight years old and made my first quilt at eighteen. By the time I was in my twenties, some of my dearest friends were women in their sixties and seventies.
They taught me the way they had been taught.
They showed me how to sew, stitch, finish, mend, and make things properly—not because handmade was fashionable, but because that was simply how things were done. They took their time. They used what they had. They knew the little things mattered, even the things nobody else would ever see.
I didn’t know it then, but they were giving me something I would carry for the rest of my life. There is something special about knowledge passed from one pair of hands to another, and I feel a responsibility to carry a little of it forward.
My husband, Brian, and I are both “make something out of nothing” sort of people. We met later in life, in our forties, while volunteering during the Gatlinburg fires. Looking back, that seems fitting. Giving and serving others has always mattered to both of us, and somehow, in the middle of helping where help was needed, we found each other.
Brian is a licensed contractor, though if you ask him what he does, he’ll simply tell you he’s a carpenter. He is a true craftsman, and his respect for the old ways has shaped much of the life we’ve built together.
And I mean built quite literally.
Here in the mountains of East Tennessee, we’ve built our log cabin with our own hands, using logs and stone from our land and lumber we milled ourselves. Every log was hand-hewn by Brian with an adze that was hand-forged by my great-grandfather.
There are easier ways to build a house.
But that isn’t really the point.
There is something deeply meaningful to us about preserving the old ways—about knowing where something came from, whose hands shaped it, and the story it carries forward.
That same belief is at the heart of Heritage Cabin Co.
Everything I make, choose, or offer here is meant to have thought, purpose, and love behind it. I want the things that leave this little shop to be useful, beautiful, and worthy of a place in someone else’s work basket or home. Some are made by my own hands. Others are carefully chosen because I believe they belong here and have something worthwhile to offer a fellow maker.
I don’t want to fill shelves simply for the sake of filling shelves.
I want to offer good things.
Things made to be used. Things worth keeping. Things that might someday carry a story of their own.
Above all, our faith is at the center of the life Brian and I are building. We love Jesus, and we know every good thing we have—from the work of our hands to this patch of mountain we call home—is a gift from Him.
Heritage Cabin Co. is my way of sharing a little piece of that life with you.
So pull up a chair and stay awhile. I’m mighty glad you’re here.
